Tongue Piercing

Tongue piercing had its place in ancient cultures like Aztecs and Mayans. They pierced their tongue in their ritual in order to increase the blood flow. Nowadays, it is said to be very popular among women although in recent years there is an increase with male users, too. Tongue piercing is done on the tongue (really! in many different ways. The most popular one is done in the centre of the tongue called the midline piercing. You may want to have the edges pierced or go for the vertical/horizontal piercing, snake eyes piercing or have it beneath the tongue (frenulum)!

If it is done by a professional piercer who is experienced in tongue piercing, the procedure is very fast and can be said to be not that painful as expected or should we say scared! On the other hand, keep in mind that the swelling afterwards can make you feel a bit uncomfortable as it may affect your eating and drinking for a few days.

It is generally 4 to 6 weeks depending on the aftercare. To avoid the infection and control the swelling, try putting small ice cubes on your tongue. Cleaning your piercing four times a day is crucial. It is best to use an antiseptic solution or an aftercare solution. At first, you are pierced with a bigger piercing to compensate for the swelling. To prevent the potential damage to your teeth, after it is healed completely, change it with a smaller one. Try speaking at minimum at least for the first days, avoid hot or fizzy drinks. Bad news for smokers! Keep away during the complete healing time!

You want to be recognized, attract attention and do not care what others think but you are fully aware of the fact that it draws attention each time you start speaking, eating or drinking :)
